Extra Day At the Falls

Today we had planned to leave for Maine, but finally the sun was up by the time we were up and we decided to stay another day. It had been raining a lot, and we had not seen the Falls with proper sunshine. So we drove the MH to the Whirlpool State Park, this was the only place free to park. We did not fancy paying 12 to 15 dollar for parking, so we biked the 3 odd miles or so back into the town. We rode our bike over the Rainbow Bridge into Canada, they only charge bikes 0,50 cents for cross over, but cars have to pay 2,50 so that was a bargain for us. On the other side we parked up the bikes and went for a walk along the boulevard. It was getting cloudier, but the sun was still shining. We both agreed that we had done the right thing, by staying another day. Walked passed the Horse Shoe Falls and ended up in the Niagara Parks Greenhouse, they do not charge any fee to get in. It is not a huge place, but it is very nicely done. There were some small birds flying around and Wahid tried to make a picture of one of them, but they did not come out that well. After the Greenhouse we strolled back along the boulevard and went to the Skylon, we had free tickets and took the ride up. The view is beautiful from up there and it looks so different from the time we saw it at night. After a while was it getting cold and we both were quite hungry. So we walked back and took the bikes and cycled across the bridge again, it was kind of strange to cycle, I do not think they have too many people doing that.

Wahid wanted to get something to eat, but I said that it would be better to see a couple of things on the American side before we had something to eat. So we cycled to Luna Island, we had not been there before. And you have a gorgeous view from there, your right above the Bridal Veil Fall and the American Falls. It is pretty amazing when you look down. Then we went to Terrapin Point to get a better view of the Horse Shoe Falls, when you arrive there you hear this roaring sound the whole time. I was actually surprised about how low the water level is before it plunges down. After that we cycled back via Goat Island and went in search of an Indian restaurant. There were quite a few in the area and it did not take us that long. It was more a fast food type of joint, but then with curries. The food was not bad and you could eat as much as you wanted. With our stomach bursting, we cycled back to the state park and drove off to get a spot for the night. It was getting already dark and when we getting closer to town we could see all the buildings lit up. So we parked the MH and took some pictures of the Canadian side of town. We both had a tripod now and the pictures came out rather nicely. By that time is was way past seven and we drove back to the place where we had stayed the previous nights (free electric hook up & louzy internet connection). To our surprise nobody had taken "our" slot, which was just dandy.
