Cleveland, Ohio

Last week we spend in Ohio, this is one of the States that we have never been to before. We did not have that much information about the area we were visiting. On Sunday we arrived in Cuyahoga Valley NP, only to discover that there were no campgrounds in the NP, and all the private campgrounds were pretty far away. We drove to Macedonia, one of the suburbs of Cleveland, parked up at Wall Mart and bought some tickets for “The Covenant”. We had some time to kill and had a look at some of the shops in the neighborhood. We thought it was a bit odd that some of the shops were already closed. But soon enough we discovered that we were in the wrong time zone and that our movie already had started. So we hurried to the cinema, luckily they changed the tickets for a later viewing in the evening. The next morning we drove through the park and stopped in several places, the weather was lovely and warm. What I did not like that much about the park is that, it is awfully surrounded by house. There is no border between the two and it feels more like a huge city park then a national park. In the evening we drove to another Wall Mart in the Severance area and parked up for the night. The next morning we bought day tickets for the bus and took the 9x line into the city. We did not have any information about the city; we had looked up some stuff on the internet, but could not find a lot. We stopped off near by Lake Erie and walked to the Hall of Fame, a beautiful building. But we thought it was a bit too expensive to see the exhibition, 20 dollar p.p. is not cheap. The boats were not going on the lake during the week anymore, so that was another thing we did not do either. We went to see the shopping malls and had something to eat in the food court, this one had some seats on the balcony and it was lovely to sit outside in the sun. Then we took the bus to another area of town and ended up near West Side Market, but the market was closed. So we took the bus back and wanted to go up to the lake, but when we asked the bus driver if we could get any closer to the lake with the bus one of the passengers said that we should not go any further, it was “a bad area” so we got off and walked back to the main road and took another bus back to downtown. When we got off we asked one of the “security ambassadors” if there were any other shopping areas we could go to. But he said that we basically had seen it all in town. He mentioned that there was a ball game that night in the stadium; the Cleveland Indians were playing the Chicago White Socks. He said that there were still tickets available and we headed the way to the stadium. Within half an hour later we were in the Jacobs Field Stadium. We both never had been to a game before so it was quite exciting. The Indians won the game, but the game was kind of boring, and there was only one home run in the whole game. It was getting pretty late and finding the right bus stop was a challenge. We found out that “our” bus was not leaving from downtown that late in the evening. So for a couple of minutes there was a little panic that we might have to catch a cab again. But luckily there was another bus going to the University area where we could get the bus back to the MH.
